The basis of our Intensive Residential Treatment Program is to remove the client from the environment which supports substance abuse and through education and counseling, help formulate new thinking, an experience of sobriety and a commitment to change.

We encourage the client to begin the process of identifying with the available 12-Step programs in the area and we integrate the educational materials from these programs into our work. The course of treatment is up to 6 weeks in duration with successful graduates being invited to weekly aftercare.

We also offer a short-term relapse track for those who need to strengthen their resolve and reconnect with the basis of their sobriety. We offer special tracks that deal with anger and violence as it relates to chemical dependency.

Homeward Bound opened Seidler House in Old East Dallas in 1980 as the first probation-based halfway house in Texas. Most of our residents have a history of alcohol/drug abuse, some have mental health problems and others are homeless and unemployed. Employment placement, counseling, budgeting and developing good work habits are all part of the program. Being drug and alcohol-free while in residence at Seidler House is mandatory

Program planning for each client is individualized according to his or her needs. The format in some areas does not falter or change, and no client is exempt from mandatory urinalysis and alcohol/drug education on a regular basis

If residents are not in a vocational, academic, or some form of structured program, then full-time employment is required. Each client is expected to establish a savings account monitored by the staff and pay probation fees, demonstrate stable employment, acquire an approved residence and maintain a chemical-free lifestyle. All clients contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. Unemployed clients perform community service when not in educational, recovery or job search activities.
